How long would you be in a wheelchair for a broken ankle?

My crush is in a wheelchair now because he broke his ankle, he broke his ankle on the last week of school, will he be on crutches when school starts again? will i be able to give him a hug because hes not in a wheelchair in the fall? please help!!
