I have just had an ankle cast removed, when will swelling go down?

I broke my ankle and had an operation to put pins in. I have had my cast removed today and I was wondering how long it'll take for the swelling to go down because I can't get my shoe on. Also, how long will it take for me to atleast be able to walk again? I have crutches. Thanks.
