If Israel is God's chosen nation, why do we need to defend it?

The covenant with Israel was broken 7 years after Jesus became the Christ (Daniel 9:27). Now a Jew is one who is a Jew on the inside. No more does God have a chosen physical race (Romans 2:28,29).
