Why does society not like dark skin?

Ok so my skin is a dark brown and has a reddish hue...but it seems like all of my friends talk about it ALL OF THE TIME...my sibling even mention it. Guys say im sexy and attractive but it seems to always be an issue somehow...I want people to accept me for me. I have a great personality but it seems like the skin im in shields me. Carmel skin and "high yellow" skin seems so much prettier. How can i love me for me when the only black girls on television etc. are carmel and light. I don't see any darker shades (blue black?) on television and well...its not just im not popular. Im not wanted by society. I don't want to use my skin as a crutch but i would like it if somebody could tell me why my boyfriends and friends seem to have a trouble looking past this. Sometimes i feel beautiful, sometimes i don't. The ONLY thing i wish i could change is my skin. So i could be accepted. HELP PLEASE! (IM only 13 so please don't mind the spelling errors)
